Review | The Joe

Tried out The Joe today~ It’s a new burger place located in Hongdae, right on the main street heading up towards the University across from Starbucks. Very friendly, and clean. They all speak English which is awesome, and their burgers are pretty decent. Went there last night with Adam of Cholosaurus and got their “Signature” burger which is their basic burger. Next time we’ll try the others but for my first visit, I had to try their signature to see if their burgers were legit. For flavour I give them a 7 out of 10. Many burgers in Corea lack real flavour, usually bland and tasteless. This burger was literally dripping of some goodness cooked right from the grill. A good amount of veggies and really really good fries. One of the best tasting fries yet! Overall, the place gets a 6.5, the burger overall gets a 5.8 while Adam gives it an overall of 6.5 I still say the best burger so far(and worth the price) is the Scrooge Burger at Scrooge Pub located in Itaewon by the first El Bliss location. It’s about $9 but it’s a real burger. If you’re looking to score some normal tasting burgers, go on Monday nights to B1 in Itaewon for their Burger Night special. $5 gets you a burger that tastes exactly like a Big N Tasty from McDonalds. Now, you’re thinking~ I can just get the Big N Tasty from McDonals right? WRONG! Corean McDonalds is…. well let me put it this way. Any Simpsons fans out there? I’m gona go ahead and compare the McDonalds in Corea to “Powersauce Bars” from The Simpsons episode. Not familiar with it? Check out Season 9 Episode 23 titled “King of the Hill” Food and The Simpsons is my thing. GET ON IT!

I didn’t do an actual review on El Bliss, Itaewon location but it’s also owned by DJ Shine of Drunken Tiger. It’s got more of a lounge feel and feels more spacious than the Hongdae location. I’d recommend going in the evening because in the day time, the vibe isn’t there and it feels awkward. They play dope music though but it’s like, the atmosphere isn’t really there to accompany it. It’s up that first hill past KFC. Where that Zippo lighter stand is. Turn into that alley/hill and you’ll see B1 on your left at the top of that hill. Turn left at the top of the hill and you have El Bliss on your left and a few feet past that is Scrooge. Happy Hunting! You can also read my review on El Bliss in Hongdae HERE.
