What’s good world!? Seoul, Corea has some dope events lined up this year~ Not only is R16 one of the biggest and major battles in the world, but there’s also a world DJ festival happening right here in Seoul in May. Now honestly I didn’t even know about this festival until my friend Mera send me the info this morning. But you can check out the info on their website! It looks like a good line up of some old school like Fantastic Plastic Machine to new school House Rulez if you like electronic music. They’ll also have DJ for rock and hip-hop. This is their 4th annual event so go check it out! I’ll be there with my crew as well~ The event starts at 14:00(2PM) on the 8th of May(Sat) and lasts until 06:00(6AM) on the 9th of May(Sun). Located over at Han River Park Nanji Area, tickets are around $25 if you get it by the 20th of March. Then around $33 until the 5th of April then, around $44 til the 20th of April. Regular admission is $55 so get your tickets soon!
If you were lucky enough to be in Corea this past Saturday, you would have been at the R16 Corea prelims at Kintex in Ilsan, Corea. As the title suggests, Jinjo Crew took it for the win between a battle of 16 crews who came out hoping to represent for Corea at R16 World Finals that’s taking place in Seoul, Corea on July 3rd & 4th. The whole event was smaller than I had expected, a mere 200(?) or so it seemed like, gathered at Kintex for the battle. Surprisingly a lot of people from “out of town” came out, France, Holland, and the states! And maybe a third of that crowd was the unexpected elderly crowd and suits! I’m not gonna lie, it felt a little weird being there~ Even the emcees of the night weren’t feeling it. The whole night, emcees Make-1 & Jazzy Ivy constantly had to work the crowd to get hype. A few problems arose with the sound equipment during the battles too, it was pretty unorganized. It felt very last min. None the less, the bboys brought it. It seems as though bboying in Corea has gone more towards style whereas in the past, they were more power driven with massive blow ups and ridiculous power combos that we all know and love. Moving up the brackets, the 16 crews each battle their way up to the final four. The final four crews(and the obvious) were Last For One, Maximum Crew, Jinjo Crew, & Leadmos Crew. Mind you R16 Prelims also used a new judging/scoring system where they scored on the usual categories of Foundation, Execution etc. where each judge, depending on which category they are assign to will score a 1 – 5 then was up for the tally as soon as the rounds ended. So every bboy can see his or her score after their round. After each battle, each of the crews are able to see their final scores, which then the winner of that battle is chosen right then and there. So moving up the battle circuit, Maximum vs Last For One & Leadmos vs Jinjo. Maximum took it but the battle was a close call! Same went with Jino vs Leadmos! Peep the video:
So the final came out to Jinjo Crew vs Maximum Crew. And Jino Crew came through to represent Corea for the R16 World Finals in July!
